Fees

Our fees are charged according to whether we are instructed by a professional client such as a solicitor or, directly by a member of the public; the complexity of each case; the volume of documents involved; the projected duration of the case and the seniority of the barrister concerned. For more understanding of how fees are charged, please visit the BSB website at:

 https://www.barstandardsboard.org.uk/for-the-public/finding-and-using-a-barrister/barristers-fees.html

Chambers is always willing to discuss the way in which cases are charged with you. You are invited to contact chambers for a precise quote pertaining to the legal work required. We set out below an outline of our fees. Please note, the below quote is a guide only.

VAT

There is a variation in whether individual barristers are VAT registered or not. Please check with chambers for an indication of any VAT registration.

Fees / Timescales Variations

Our Public Access fees and timescales may be varied where:

  1. Counsel is served or provided with further evidence/information that makes a case more complex than initially instructed

  2. There are more court hearings than initially agreed or anticipated – such as a part-heard or return date

Counsel will always discuss any variations in fees with you prior to billing

The key stages of Public Access work are according to the work involved and the timescales are dictated by which judicial or government department is involved. Chambers has noticed a significant decrease in the speed with which cases are dealt with by the County Courts, as they deal with a significant delay due in part by the Coronavirus pandemic and the following backlog.

Counsel will also advise you if your case may be eligible for legal aid and refer you to another organisation that may be able to assist you with this if you cannot afford to instruct a barrister under the Public Access Scheme. You can find more information on legal aid and how to apply on the gov.uk website.
